50 odd views and no replies.  Has no one spent time fishing there?  Any records of catches?  Match records?  Memories of older members?

Its not the sort of question  that you see posted very often (carp fishing in felmersham) have spoken to  a couple of the older types and they cannot think of any carp that have been landed but that said a previous match manager has told of hooking fish that are not barbel, for my view i think that the water is to deep and flowing to fast to hold ahead of carp, also having looked at the temporal survey resuilts for the last two surveys they show no carp up stream of our section

The knowledgeable Bounty Hunter is correct Eddie.  Felmersham has no history of carp.  My fishing of the venue has been mainly in matches but does stretch back to 1977-8 when Hitchin had the fishing rites.
In general the Great Ouse from Sharnbrook through to Bedford does not hold carp.  In the early '80s roach, some big bream & dace were our principle quarry while by the '90s saw chub were to dominate along with a perch and a few tench - chopped worm fishing has highlighted the latter. More recently barbel have started to take over although, to be fair, they (barbel) are not usually targeted on our reach.
As with most fisheries the unproved tales of monsters have had their moments - catfish or carp? - but in 30 years I have never had reason to add to the myths.  Its my opinion that just about the only untapped specimens in the river below the bridge are pike - fighting fit river pike of I guess over 15lbs are there for the taking.

Thank you both for your replies.  Good to know that before I spend any time trying to catch something that isn't there!  Would really love to get amongst some river carp, so I'll keep my eyes and ears open for the right spot.

Still fancy spending some time on the sttetch though - nice location and probably fairly quiet (!).  Think that I might have a dabble for those pike later in the year....

Cheers

The venue has some uncaught pike  mainly because it very rarely gets fished for pike, the only advise that i can give to you is to be very careful when you put your tackle down the locals do not tend to clear up after their dogs if you get my meaning!!!

Possibly a better tip than any actual fishing hints!

We have a club match at Felmersham next Sunday, 7th. September ( re-arranged after Biggleswade cancelled their fixtures).  Why not come along? draw time is 8.30 match fishing time 10.00a.m. to 3.00p.m.

Seen a couple of very big carp last season along the Embankment length in the Centre of Bedford (20lb+) along with a shole of 100+ bream of between 3-6lb, that tend a shole up there early in the season.   I Know of an angler having 130lb of bream from just below the small island (above weir) fishing from the grass bank.  Not seen the carp so far this year but i keep my eye out when i take a walk along this length during my lunch hours.

Loads of tench aswell along the length with my best session catching 7 from below the butterfly bridge.
