Not for the first time fishing on the Canal Lake suffered as a result of a good turn-out.
Thanks to John Wigg and co for running the match while Mike was on Holiday.
Leptospirosis (Weils disease)
Club Match - Poppy Hill : Lake 1
This was a second match transferred to Lake 1 because of an “out of condition” river.
Following the bream catch by Russ Hill last time the lake was used more of the anglers opted for feeder fishing however only small fish were taken.
Drawn at peg 15 Dave Batcheldor was quickly into fish on the pole line using pinkie loose feed and a single pinkie on a size 20 hook. With almost no other anglers able to get a bite Dave built an unassailable lead and was even able to step up his rig to bring the roach and skimmers to the net quickly – it also helped him bring some fish in before the numerous pike could strike. The scales read 11lbs 15ozs – a weight that was to be about three times that of everyone else added together!
The runner-up with 1lb 8ozs was Rick Green at peg 28 who found a few roach late in the day using a pole rig close to the reed bed.
Next was Steve Mayes at peg 4 where a waggler and maggot set up brought 1lb 4ozs.
