24hr Sponsored Fishing Event
Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th August saw Letchworth Garden City Angling Association hold a sponsored 24hr fish at Poppy Hill Lakes Henlow all members were invited to come along and raise a bit of money for two local charities, the Garden House Hospice and Keech Cottage children's hospice.
Nigel White and Mike Clarke (the charity committee) would like like to thank the following people who gave a few hours of their time to raise some money for
two worth while causes.
Jim Cox, Dick Sayers, Jason Byrne, Tony Hersey, Steve Mayes, Bob Skeggs, Mick Waller, Ken Kendall, Malcolm Theakstone, John Dalrymple, Barry Saunders
Gary (apologies Gary forgot your surname) Gary was the only junior member to take part, Mike and myself.
Thanks also goes to Len Leroux who arranged the BBQ and did the cooking on Sunday after the event finished.
Not all monies are in yet but I estimate that the above people along with the raffle will have raised well over ?Ǭ£1000.00. From so few (given the size of the club) a tremendous amount, well done all.
There were two small trophies awarded after the event, one for most money raised thru sponsorship and one for best fish caught during the event. The most sponsored went to Jim Cox who raised a staggering ?Ǭ£407.00. The best fish trophy went to Jason Byrne who in one night broke his PB Bream record twice, first with one of 6lb 1oz followed soon after by one of 7lb 12oz, lastly followed by a PB carp of 29lb.
